Icloud password lost

Hi, my iphone is broken, there was my icloud opened, i bought new iphone but i forgot the icloud password, i did the icloud recovery and apple said that the further information will be sent to you per e mail. But how they will send information to my e mail, if my e mail (icloud )is in the broken phone?
