The recents page in finder is all empty and will not go away when I click on the X in the top left corner.

I'm using a 2015 MacBook Pro running MacOS Mojave. When I've closed out of all my other windows and I should be just on my desktop, the recents page from Finder is still there, but empty. It responds to my clicks to make it fullscreen and back, and it will minimize and come back, but it won't go away when I click on the X button. How do I fix it?

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.14
