MACBOOK PRO Back-Up Disk

When I look at my back-up disk it has files dated back through 2015. Should I erase them or does Time Machine automatically erase them as it needs room?

Time machine keeps as many as it can, and only consolidates and removes enough to make the next backup work properly.

DIO NOT try to "help" it along. Those files are all double-locked and you will never be able to do anything but make a mess of your backups.

If you wish, you can. request ONE backup be removed, which Time Machine will accomplish in the background over the span of several hours. You can not request a second one be deleted until the first one is done.
