New ipad

Purchased a new ipad. I started to set up, but got interupted. Now when I try to open things the device asks me for passcode, but none that I had works.

You mean that you can’t unlock the iPad? If that’s what you mean, you have to restore it using iTunes on a computer in order to unlock it.
