Trackpad Gestures - More Gestures > Swipe between pages - three-finger swipe working when using two-finger only option

Hi,

The gesture setting Swipe between pages (Preferences > Trackpad > More Gestures > Swipe between pages) has these three options:

- Scroll left or right with two fingers

- Swipe with three fingers

- Swipe with two or three fingers

however I noticed two issues:

  1. the default "Scroll left or right with two fingers" option seamlessly registers three-finger swipes the same way it registers two-finger swipes -- from the description I would expect three-finger swipes to not work for swiping between pages (e.g. in the web browser) at all,
  2. when using second or the third option, it seems the directionality is swapped for three-finger swipe as swiping left goes back, while two-finger swipe to left goes forward (if possible).

In case the point 1 is how it is intended to work, is it possible to disable the three-finger part of it? I use an external gesture utility and I would like to assign three-finger swipes, however system gestures have higher priority, so it does not work then.

Thank you for any information you can provide.

Best,

Ryan

You do not say what exact Mac /model /year /size /retina /touchbar is this

or what exact macOS you are currently running?

You can Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

Verify your software is up to date. If you are running the 10.14.5 then try reinstalling the combo up date on top of your existing macOS 10.14.5

I have found the answer, in the courtesy of 77ilham77 over at Reddit:

If you didn't assign the three-fingers gesture on anything else (for example: swiping between space, mouse drag, etc.), then the three-fingers gesture will works the same as the two-fingers (which mean not only swipe between pages, but also scrolling).
Basically, it will fallback to the next, lesser finger gesture (i.e. it somewhat ignore the extra finger). You could also try setting up your trackpad to use just three-fingers gesture for everything and leaving the four-fingers unassigned. If you do this, then the four-fingers gesture will works just like the three-fingers gesture (since nothing is using the four-fingers, it will fallback to three-fingers)
