Junk in Mail Program

I am new to the Mac world. Having problems with my Mail program. It is putting things in Junk mail that are in my contacts. I have gone to Preferences and set them to allow things in my Contacts to not be Junk but emails are still coming into Junk.

That’s quite possibly your mail provider and their spam filtering doing that, and not your Mac.

Which mail provider?

Google gmail will do this for instance, if you don’t use a web browser and log into gmail and switch the junk-related settings at gmail, while logged into your gmail in a browser accessing the Google servers. If this is what is happening here, this isn’t happening in Mail on the Mac. It’s happening on the Google gmail servers, before the Mac and its spam-filtering and any user-specified mail rules even get invoked.
