Favorites on iPhone do not sync to Mac??

It seem that if you favorite photos on your camera roll, when you sync them to your Mac the favorites tag is lost and you have to re-favorite them again? This seems odd, am I missing something?

How are you "syncing" the photos? If you do it though an iCloud Photo Library, things like keywords and favorites are supposed to sync. If you are syncing them by plugging in your iPhone and having the Photos app import the new photos (I assume this still works as I have not done it from an iPhone, only a USB device) then I don't believe that type of information is copied over with the photo files.
