Airplay for Mirroring on Samsung TV
Airplay works well in mirroring my iMac on my Samsung TV until I try to play a video on my superdrive. The video quits showing and the screen turns gray. Anyone solved this problem?

Wi-Fi is NOT the internet. You do not need an Internet connection have Wi-Fi setup in your house. It's kind of dumb to have Wi-Fi without any Internet but you can do it. You asked if you need an Internet signal and the answer is no, you just need Wi-Fi.
it's blocked because it's not legal really
airplay strip the dvd/blueray stream of it's DRM https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection
which mean it technically could be copied and pirated so
apple have their player block it
the fact that VLC works would indicate they are not following the rules
It may be a restriction in Apple's DVD player for copyright reasons. Try playing DVDs with VLC.
What version of Mac OS are you running and have you attempted any basic resets such as a NVRAM or restarting in Safe Mode?
Yes it is just that, Apple care answered my question, the signal has to go over my Wifi, ie the internet, so it is stopped. Non regulated videos, such as tube work fine.
