The current Series 3 & 5 Apple Watches for sale come with watchOS 6 which is NOT compatible with the iPhone 6
You need an iPhone 6s, SE, 7, 8, X, XS, XR, 11 or 11 Pro
Used iPhones can be an inexpensive way to jump to a supported iPhone.
