ipad no longer downloads books to reader apps with ios 13

After installing ios13 on ipad, books no longer seem to download (or at least I can't find them). Formerly, at sites like Project Gutenberg, I'd just select a download option (such as ebook or kindle). I'd then get options as to which reader app to open in. Easy. Now, I'm a asked if I want to download. I say yes and the book goes -- I don't know where and can't find it!

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Ps i don't have an ipad pro; just a regular 2017 ipad. This wasn't a choice when I had go designate a device
