Trouble upgrading from Mavericks 10.9.5 to El Capitan 10.11.6

Hardware: MacBook Air mid-2013 - 1.3ghz i5, 4gb ram

OS: Mavericks 10.9.5

Tried to update to El Capitan via App Store however the following error pops up:

"We could not complete your purchase.

This version of OS X 10.11 cannot be installed on this computer."

Any way to update to a lower compatible version of El Capitan?

Thanks!

That's probably because your Mac is capable of a higher operating system. Actually a 2013 MBA is capable of Catalina. If you don't want to install Catalina try High Sierra or Mojave:

You can use these links:

Get macOS High Sierra.

Get macOS Mojave.
