iCloud Drive - How to isolate big backups for ONE device

iCloud lets me select which apps can store files on iCloud Drive. I purchased a larger iCloud Drive storage allocation in order to save some folders of very large backups files for ONE of my devices. I don't want all of those files on all of my devices.

But for Safari, Mail, Notes, Text Edit, etc I do want all of my devices to access and share. On those other devices though, I have to turn off iCloud Drive to prevent GBs of my backup folders from downloading. In doing that, I lose Preview, Text Edit, Pages, Mail...

Is there a way to eliminate my backups from other devices while keeping those apps storing and sharing? Folders I've added to iCloud Drive are not available to select or deselect:

Or is there a way to add some of those Apps to the main list of "Apps on this Mac using iCloud:"

There isn't a way to choose what is in iCloud so that it will only sync to one device.

For what you want to do, you need a different cloud based solution such as Dropbox, OneDrive, or Flicker.
