Reinstall Mojave


Command +R only gives me Maverick to install, not Mojave!

The Command + R key sometimes boots into the Recovery mode for the original version of macOS that came with your Mac. This seems to be the case with your machine.


Could you please try the following. It is an alternative approach to booting into the macOS recovery environment to reinstall macOS:

  1. Press the power button on your Mac
  2. As soon as you hear the startup chime, hold down the Option (⌥) key. After a few seconds you should see the Startup Manager.
  3. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, move to the macOS Recovery drive option and press enter.
  4. You should boot into Mojave recovery mode now.
  5. From this environment, click the option to reinstall macOS Mojave and following the on-screen prompts to reinstall.


If you cannot find the Mojave recovery partition in step 3 above, you may not have the Mojave recovery environment to reinstall Mojave. In this case, I would suggest reinstalling Mavericks, then downloading Mojave from the Mac App Store and installing from there.

Thanks for sharing this information. I am sorry you're having trouble enabling the guest user.


It is possible you have Automatic Login enabled. Please try the following and see if you can log in as a Guest User:

  1. Follow steps 1-3 in this article: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201476
  2. In the Automatic login drop-down menu, select Off.
  3. Check if you can log in as Guest.

Hi Dungadin,


It's great to hear you got macOS reinstalled.


To enable the guest user account follow these steps:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Click "Users and Groups"
  3. On the bottom-left of the window that appears, click the "lock icon".
  4. Type your login password if prompted.
  5. On the left side bar, click "Guest User".
  6. On the right side of this window, click the checkbox beside "allow guests to log in to this computer".
  7. The guest account should now be enabled on your computer.
