Maybe Update via Safe Mode?

What do you mean by "times out"? Has it the Mac stopped responding during the update? If so, you may have no choice, but to go about reinstalling the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac (Hold Down [Command + R] upon boot). Once installed, attempt this update once more, but this time, perhaps, in Safe Mode.

If you are using WiFi that may be the problem, if you can connect to your router using a cable that

will give you a more robust connection. Do not use your Mac while it is downloading and limit any

other devices sharing your connection.

once downloaded double-click to install.

The request timed out. An error occurred while installing the selected updates.

That's the message I get every time I attempt to install this update on my iMac.

I am using ethernet and have no issues downloading anything else BUT this Security Update!

I believe this update is not working correctly. Lots are having the same problem believing it's

an internet connectivity problem.

I have downloaded it and installed it successfully twice, so I would check your end again.

Did you try there standalone download I linked to earlier.

Or have you tried downloading whilst in Safe Mode.

I just used that link you sent and everything works way better. The funny thing was when attempted to test the modem speed from Xfinity I kept getting an error as well. Just for the heck of it I will attempt it again.

I wish I could get my MBA to actually see the update. SU only sees Catalina.....
