Hello,

iPhoto was discontinued on April 8, 2015 with the release of OS X Yosemite 10.10.3.

iPhoto is not compatible with macOS Catalina 10.15. You'll need to use the Photos App. Therefore, to update the Photos App you can update the Operating System. If you upgrade to macOS Catalina 10.15, you'll have the latest version of the Photos App as part of the macOS software.

You will be able to convert the information from iPhoto to Photos. https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/switch-to-photos-from-iphoto-mchle1529919/mac
