How to keep the display permanently on while swimming?

I really want my watch display to stay on the whole time I’m swimming. It’s really hard to check progress without stopping. Why isn’t this possible?

Apple Watch Series 4, watchOS 6

Unless it is a Series 5, the Apple Watch will only stay on for at most 70 seconds. This is to conserve battery life

The Series 5 has a low refresh mode to conserve battery life, but even then it dims the display brightness, again to conserve battery life.

That would make the answer to my question as:

Apple considers its customers incapable of understanding the concept of "battery life" and excluded the possibility of allowing customers to manage, according to their specific needs. iWatch screen-time

I was hoping someone would come up with a neat hack, or tell me that the watch display burns out easily, or some kind of good reason.

I suppose the answer makes sense, considering the customer hostile IOS 13 user interface changes to some native apps (like mail). But that's an entirely different rant; I knew what I was getting into when I abandoned android.
