Mac keyboard battery compartment has two or, three batteries?

Cannot retrieve batteries from Mac keyboard. Seems there are three batteries?

FWIW, the extended keyboard takes 4.

Go to > Apple Wireless Keyboard, Mouse, and Trackpad: How to install batteries - Apple Support and look at the instructions that pertain to replacing the batteries in your wireless keyboard.

You may have left them in too long and they have begun to leak and swell and get stuck inside the keyboard. I believe they only take 2 AA batteries though.
