Sending sms from ipad

I have the lte ipad 7 generation and I have T-Mobile unlimited that includes texting. Can I text to Android too?

You can if you also have an iPhone.

iPad stand alone can only send iMessage.

To send SMS, iPad can do so via the connected iPhone.
