Connect 2 sets of AirPods to Apple TV

Is there any where to connect two sets of AirPods to an Apple TV? There are many times that my wife and I want to watch a movie with the sound off (children sleeping in a small apartment) but we keep getting an error that we need to disconnect the first audio Bluetooth device and try again.

The only workaround I have is to either have 1 earbud each, or to have the movie playing from an iPhone AirPlay-ing to the TV, both of which are less than ideal.

I thought that was one of the big features touted during the last iPhone release. It is frustrating that they did not include it in AppleTV.
