Apple Music Search Alternatives?

Any ideas for alternatives to the search function in Catalina's Music app? Specifically:

Cannot search for artist + album or artist + title, which results in...
A scrambled list of ALL songs for an artist, in a bulky format that cannot readily be searched by eye (if I own numerous albums by that artist), and
Once I do find the particular song I need, it's not possible, in this format, to drag it to a playlist; in fact, the ONLY thing I seem able to do with a song in this format is play it.

Thus I'm finding search useless for building playlists, or searching for songs on the fly. Am I missing something or is the search as bare bones as it appears?

I'd welcome any strategies or alternatives. Thanks for any help!

macOS 10.15.2 sees the return of the column browser, which together with the non-persistent Filter Field, almost replicates what could be achieved in iTunes, albeit without the ability to restrict searching to say artists, or albums, rather than all text in the track metadata.
