how would i see my backed up imessages on i cloud it does not show me an icon for backup or text messages
You don't, there is no way of viewing backed up files in the icloud.
You can only view file/data that is synced to icloud.

If you're using iCloud Syncing for Messages, your messages are not part of you back up. You can only access them through the Messages app.
