If this is about updating the iOS, the iPad will usually ask to fill in the Apple ID password.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support


In case you want to update an App, it should ask for the password as well. Unless you have Apps installed on your iPad, that you did not download with your Apple ID, or the Apple ID that has been used to set up the iPad.
