Adding a printer

My new MacBook Air does not see my older Canon MG5420 printer, so I cannot add it. Why would that be and how can I add a printer the MacBook does not see?

The Canon MG5420 is an Apple AirPrint-enabled printer. Delete its existing entry in Printers & Scanners and add it again, this time being sure to specify AirPrint.

It may be necessary to follow the printer's instructions to have it join your wireless network. While you're at it, restart your router as well. Disconnect its power, wait a moment, reconnect.
