upgrade 2009 Mac Mini bluetooth to 4.0. I want to use Apple Magic Trackpad 2 & Magic Keyboard 2.

Just bought Magic Trackpad 2 and Keyboard 2. These are seen by my Mac Mini 2009 with Bluetooth 2.1, and will pair, but will only work when connected via Lightening cables. Is there any way to get them to work wirelessly?...maybe a newer USB Bluetooth adapter of some kind?

iPad, iOS 9

Apple only shows the Magic Keyboard compatible with 2014 and 2018 Mac mini models according to the keyboard's compatibility chart, and yet on the same product page, it only asks for a bluetooth enabled computer running OS X 10.11 or later. The magic trackpad wants bluetooth 4.0 though.

This might be as simple as an inexpensive, plug-n-play Bluetooth 4.0 mini-USB dongle that does not install any drivers. Check the packaging for Mac compatibility before you purchase.
