Apple Watch won’t pair - hangs and goes blank

I’m trying to pair my watch from my old phone to new phone. It started then stopped and now on my watch says Please continue set up on iPhone. However, the screen is blank so the viewfinder can’t read info. I cannot get “i” symbol on phone to pair manually. Does this mean I have to reset to factory settings? Is there another way around pairing it?
