That means that the restoration from the backup process will first wipe everything clean currently on your iPhone and replace those contents with the information from your backup file. In the end, your iPhone will be returned to the status as it was on the day and time when that backup file was created.

If you are using iCloud Syncing for Messages, your messages are not part of your back up at all.

I suggest you determine whether you are or not before embarking on the process of restoring your phone.

Basically, it’s saying that your iPhone will go back in time to when that backup was created. Any photos, files etc created since that backup will be deleted. However if you’re using iCloud for Photos and other apps they should be restored when signing in with you’re iCloud account.

You can save more than one backups in iTunes/Finder(If using Catalina) and then choosing Manage Backups. Then right click on the backup file and choose Archive. This will keep that backup file and create a new one the next time while saving both. Thanks.

It depends on where you backup. iTunes only retains one backup. If you do a backup it will overwrite the one you want to restore from. iCloud retains two backups so you could do another backup.
