Named Artist showing in Compilations on iPhone 8

I have a named artist album which is sorted identically as the rest of the albums from this band are in Music in Catalina. The check box for 'compilation' is not checked and everything is as it should be. However my iPhone 8 constantly places this item in compilations! I have about gone crazy trying to rectify this. Every album on my phone says Various Artists as it should do in the compilation section except for this one which screams out the Artists name. If I go into Artist view on my phone it is residing there with the other six albums? Does anyone have any answers before I throw a tantrum!

Hello Xavier Cherval,

Thanks for the post in Apple Support Communities. I understand you have an album that's splitting like it's a compilation, and you've already reviewed Get Info and your metadata as it relates to compilations. I'm glad to see if I can assist.

First, make sure your iPhone is updated: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If that doesn't help, there may be a few things you can try, depending on the source of your content. Is this music downloaded from Apple Music, purchased in the iTunes Store, or imported from CD?

If the songs are imported, it might help to right-click the album and select Get Info again. Under Compilation, do you see a - in that field? If so, that would indicate at least one of the songs is marked as part of a compilation. If that's the case, I recommend checking Get Info for the individual songs. Then, if you're not using Apple Music, remove the compilation and re-sync it: Use the Finder to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer. If you use Apple Music, you'd click iTunes > File > Library > Update iCloud Music Library to update the library, and then see if that helped.

Take care.

In the end it was something to do with the name of the Artist that iOS on my phone was having problems with. As a few of the albums from this one artist had a ‘dot’ between them I put those into the name of all the albums. And guess what that worked! So no longer does it show in compilations in my phone. I had already done the steps as outlined, even going as far a wiping ALL metadata and rebuilding it track by track in Music on my MacBook. Which until I put the Artist in was going fine, so back to square one!!! Solved it myself by adding a dot! Cannot understand why iOS had a problem with just one album when I have six more by the same artist with no issue whatsoever!
