A new version of Pages (e.g. v10) that is presently in the Mac App Store requires that you have a Mac that can be upgraded to Mojave (10.14.6), or Catalina (10.15.*) — before Pages can be installed.

You can check your parenthetical Mac model from the menu : About This Mac, and compare it to the following hardware requirements for:

How to upgrade to macOS Mojave

How to upgrade to macOS Catalina

Whereas Mojave can still run 32/64-bit compatible applications, Catalina only supports 64-bit applications, printer, and scanner drivers — so Photoshop earlier than CC is unsupported, MS Office 2008/2011 unsupported, iWork '09, iMovie '09, and any old printer/scanner drivers that vendors choose to not upgrade. Many third-party application vendors may charge for Catalina compatible software upgrades too.
