sync iTunes from Mac to XR

I cannot see a way to sync my iTunes music to my iPhone XR. My Mac is a 2009 with OS X El Capitan. I cannot upgrade the Mac to another OS. When I connect phone to computer, it does not show up on iTunes or in Finder. Is there a way?

If you purchased the music form the iTunes store, you will not loose any music. You could essentially make a copy of your music library onto a portable hard drive and transfer it to your new computer. If you try to play a purchased song on your new computer, it will automatically verify that you own it as long as you are signed into your iTunes account on your new computer. If you are not signed in, it will ask you to do so and then verify that you own the song and you will be able to play it.
