I've recently got a MacBook Air and I love it but I'm a bit confused because I have apple music subscription on my phone and I logged in on my Mac but it won't allow me to download anything.

Do I need to upgrade to the family subscription so I can use it on both or should I be able to use my individual subscription on both?

You should be able to use your Apple Music subscription on any device that you are signed in on with your Apple ID. Make sure that the MacBook is authorized under account > authorizations in Music
