Update Apple ID and Password

How can I sign out from my apple id on my IPad? I changed my Apple ID however when I attempt updating the password on the iPad it's requesting the password for my old Apple ID

The iPad keeps popping up that a backup hasn't been made in weeks. It's they requesting the password. However it is requesting the password for the old Apple ID which I have attempted to change on the iPad but it won't allow me to.
