My LACIE hard drive will not mount

I just bought a new LACIE hard drive from Apple Store for my MacBook Pro 2019. I connected with the Thunderbolt connection provided and it prompted me to erase the drive to be able to use for Time mAchine. When I clicked yes, it immediately stated there was error. I tried to mount the HD in Disk Doctor and it says: (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930868.)

You need to reformat the drive. There is something wrong with what you first did based on that error. Do the following:

  1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities' folder.
  2. After Disk Utility loads select the LaCie drive (out-dented entry w/type and size info) from the side list.
  3. Click on the Erase button in the Disk Utility toolbar. A panel should drop down.
  4. In the drop down panel set the partition scheme to GUID. Set the Format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  5. Click on the Apply button and click on the Done button when it is activated.
  6. Quit Disk Utility.

Usually, when the drive is properly formatted this way, the OS will pop-up a large dialog box asking if you wish to use the drive for Time Machine. Click on the Yes button. Be sure to configure Time Machine preferences before starting your backup.
