2020. How to force Apple Mail to download mail ONLY upon manual action?
iMac 21.5″ 4K, macOS 10.12
I fear this file is the problem...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Trouble is it holds almost all you Mail settings, so if trashing it make certain you have a current backup & be prepared to setup Mail Accounts again... & don't do that even if you have POP accounts.
Mail>Preferences>General>Check for new Messages>Manually.
Each time I go offline, Mail quickly reverts to all accounts online. A corollary is how to take all accounts offline and keep them offline.
Then in Mail Preferences : Accounts, deselect Enable this account. I will stay inactive until you enable it again.
stop automatic mail download.
