Superdrive stopped working with new Macbook pro

My superdrive worked with my new Macbook pro 15" until today. Now I get a message that says I need to plug it in to a USB slot with power. I have to use an adapter for the usb and it worked fine when I first purchased the MacBook. The adapter is from Apple. Any suggestions for getting it to run again?

Hold down the "option" key while clicking on the menu and select System Information. Click on the USB section and see if the "Apple USB SuperDrive" is listed. If not then it's possible the drive has failed. You might also try restarting your MacBook and see if anything changes.
