Email Randomly Opening

My email has been randomly opening and taking over my screen on my Macbook Air. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

It's a long-standing bug in the Mail app. Seems to affect only those that have Gmail accounts.

No solution, just a workaround: instead of closing the Mail window, minimize it to the Dock.

Let Apple know. The more people report a bug, the better chances of Apple addressing it.
