Are the messages Blue per chance ?

If so they are iMessages and not SMS

Go to Settings/Messages

Scroll down to Send as SMS and slide toggle to the right

Also slide MMS Messaging toggle to the right

You will now be able to send standard SMS to Android devices (The bubble will be Green) and iMessages to iPhones (The bubble being blue)

iMessages will send to Mac and iOS devices using the phone number and your Apple email account address - its a feature

Go to Settings/Messages and tap on Send & Receive. Under “START NEW CONVERSATIONS FROM” check your phone number.
