I want to create space on my iMac. How do I set up so images are stored only on iCloud and NOT on my iMac?

iMac 27″ 5K, macOS 10.14

iCloud is a sync service. If you delete photos on your Mac, they are deleted in iCloud too.

You can save space on your Mac by turning on 'Optimize storage' . Look at this link and read at least the section 'Save space on your device'. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204264

Another option is to move your entirely photo library to an external disk https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201517.

Before doing so, make a TimeMachine backup. Good to know: TimeMachine can also include data on an external drive (it's an option)
