Unable to update my MacBook Pro

Every time I want to update my MacBook Pro to macOS Catalina 10.15.5 it tells me to restart before I can install. I then restart it which only takes 10 seconds and when I return it repeats the cycle of not allowing me to install without restarting. Am I doing a step wrong?

Try holding down the shift key when you next reboot. If it starts ok, reboot and see if it still works. Then report back here :-)
