Incorrect apple ID linked to my original phone

How is it possible the apple ID is not mine when I purchased from the retailer brand new? The phone is linked in my cloud account as my device from the beginning but when I wiped it the lock is showing another ID connected to the phone.

if you are the original owner, contact Apple. Apple can remove the Activation Lock if provided the required paperwork. Either take the device, the original purchase receipt with the serial number, and a photo ID to the nearest Apple Store (if it has reopened)

See Turn off Activation Lock https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201441

If you purchased your device from an authorized Apple seller: In the rare case your device came activation locked from an authorized Apple seller, then contact Apple Support and present your original purchase receipt for your device with the device’s serial number on it. You’ll need a photo ID too. I have seen this happen in only two cases. If this is not what happened, then the device is useless to you.

You can use the suggested support options below if you have the needed receipt. Alternatively, if an Apple Store is open in your area, then you can go there to deal with your problem. In this case, you can make a genius-bar appointment (https://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/) if you want.

My Case was In-Store Return:

It is probably an in-store return. It happened to me after I called Apple in 2017 requesting support. I purchased my Mac anew from Apple.

Have you Contacted the Retailer?

No one here would known the ultimate reason, nor have any say in returns, as these are User-to-User forums. So, take it up with the retailer, perhaps viewing their Terms & Conditions about purchases, prior to doing so.
