I have updated my MacBook Pro. When I click on iPhoto it says the app is not compatible with the new updated software. I can't view the photos that are in in the app either. How can I access these photos so I can download them elsewhere? There are YEARS of photos on there that I can not lose!

iPhoto was discontinued 5 years ago. It is no longer developed or sold. It was replaced by the more powerful (and free) Photos.app that comes with the OS. You can migrate to that app very simply:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch Photos. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point at your iPhoto Library. It will do the rest.
If you prefer not to use Photos there are several 3rd party apps that you can use. Which to choose depends on the kind of photographer you are and your budget.

Photos replaced iPhoto years ago. You can create a Photos Library from your iPhoto media. Launch Photos with the option key held down. The Photos icon looks like a multicolored flower. From the resulting dialog, choose your iPhoto Library. Photos will crate a new library, so your iPhoto Library will not be changed.
My Mac updated and now I can not use iPhoto... How can I access all the photos I had stored in that app?!?!
