Installing High Sierra over El Capitan

I have a Mac Mini Late 2012 (16MB RAM) using Mac OS El Capitan (10.11.6) and I would like to upgrade to High Sierra. Can I install it directly over El Capitan or I have to install Sierra first? Will I have problems doing this? Or it is better to format the drive (I use a SSD) and do a clean install?

Any help? Thanks in advance.

You can upgrade directly to macOS 10.13 High Sierra.

Here is an Apple article for creating bootable macOS USB installers. The article also includes links to download macOS installers from 10.11 to 10.15:

Make sure to have a good verified working backup before upgrading macOS just in case something goes wrong. You should have regular backups anyway.
