Further details:

In System Preferences > About This Mac it says mine is "iMac 27-inch, Late 2012". Ancient I know, but when I check compatibility requirements for MacOS Catalina, that is on the list as the oldest one that is OK. However ... I am currently on OSX El Capitan (OS 10.11.6) and when I check for Software Updates it tells me "No Updates available". So I cannot see any way to update. This is all because I want to instal Microsoft 365, which requires OS 10.13.0 or later.
