how to move mail from one mac to another

I'm moving everything from an iMac running snow leopard to an imac running High Sierra. How can I move and save settings from mac mail?

Only if you migrate from the old iMac or your backup.

If your manually moving files from the old iMac, then you will need to manually setup your mail box.

OK, I copied my old Mac's MAIL folder in the library and put it in the new Mac. I see all my sent mail and trash mail from my 3 email accounts going way back. Great. But in the folders in the sidebar in Mail, I still only see items going back when I started setting up the new mac 4 days ago! How do I get ALL the old mail files to show up in the current sidebar folders?
