I purchased an Apple Pencil a couple years ago, recently I purchased a IPad Air. My Apple Pencil recently stopped working, so I tried charging it. It’s taking a very long time to charge when normally it charges very quickly. I tried disconnecting the Bluetooth and reconnecting the pencil and now the Apple Pencil cannot be recognized. I’ve tried restarting my iPad but the Apple Pencil still doesn’t come up in Bluetooth.

Was this pencil by any chance left uncharged for any period of time? The sad reality is the batteries in Apple Pencil are teeny, tiny and if discharged for any extended time, they die and can't be brought back to life.
After charging it using the port instead of the IPad I was able to reconnect it. Hopefully this won’t happen again.
Good. Keep it charged at all times. Don't let it sit uncharged for even a few days.
