Switching Iphones

I currently have an Iphone6 that is a work phone and linked to my personal Apple ID. The iPhone 6 work phone will be upgraded to a new iPhone device soon. Once the upgrade happens I plan to use my iPhone 6 as my personal phone number and link it to my personal Apple ID. Should I deregister the IPhone 6 from my Apple ID before I do the upgrade? I’m concerned that once the iPhone 6 is disconnected from the work phone then reconnected to the personal phone that Apple ID will still recognize it as being attached to the work number? Hope this makes sense.

Hello there Mira1020,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! We understand that you are inquiring about disconnecting your Apple ID from a your iPhone 6 and switching to an upgraded device. We are more than happy to help you out with this.

Once you remove the Apple ID from the iPhone 6 and connect it to a newer device, it will not recognize it as being attached to an old number. Apple IDs are device specific not number specific. You may need to change your trusted number to your personal number if you haven't already done so. You can do this by navigating to Apple ID - Sign In. Sign in with your Apple ID and password and edit your trusted number if you wish to do so.
