how do I reduce a document from 2mb to 1mb

Take out about half the content of the document.
Maybe if you provided some document details such as what type of document. If it is an image you likely can't reduce its size other than by cropping the image or reducing its width and height. If it is a PDF file you likely can't reduce its size without removing content. If it is a text file you could try compressing it.
Provide some information and context.
If the document is already compressed and too large, then what BobTheFisherman said, and to which I would add, if it includes images, redo the document with smaller, reduced resolution images to reduce size.
Really depends, but trey Right clicking on it & choose Compress, see what size the resulting .zip file is.
