The iPod offers so much that one manual will not cover every little thing that it can do. So there are basically three methods for getting to know how to use the iPod and they're probably best done in the following order:

1. experiment with it: explore the menus, think about what you want to do and then how you would do it. Apply that thinking to using the iPod
2. read the manual
3. ask questions here. Be specific about what you want to do and at what point (or step) you have difficulties

Notice that reading the manual is not the first thing to try. It could even be argued that it should be the third option, after asking here.
