Chrome on iMac

I have Chrome on my iMac for the rare occasions when Safari won't work with a site. For some reason, it always gets booted up at start-up even though I always quit it via the apple symbol . Nothing else seems to exhibit this symptom. Why doe it do this and how can I stop it doing so?

Remove Login items:

See if Safari and/or Chrome are Login Items. If so, remove them as such and then restart the Mac, seeing if it/they no longer load(s) at login.  Go Here: Change Users & Groups Login Items preferences on Mac - Apple Support.
