Are you sure it is an "audio CD"?

  • An audio CD is either a factory produced audio CD or a home burnt CD (CDR) that has all the music in Audio CD format. If you use Windows File Manager to look at the files on either type of these discs, they will appear to be in wav format
  • A home burnt CD (including ones that you buy direct from an artist) that has music on it in any other format, such as MP3, is not an Audio CD". Instead, is is a data disc with music files on it

To add music that is on a data disc, to your iTunes Library, copy the files on the disc to your computer and then use iTunes to add those files to your iTunes Library. To add files (that are on your computer) to your Library:

    • to add a single song, click on File/Add File to Library. Use the navigation window that opens to navigate to the folder with the song. Select the song and click on Open
    • to add a folder containing many songs, click on File/Add Folder to Library. Use the navigation window to navigate to the folder containing the songs. Do not go into that folder. Instead, simply select it and click on Select Folder button

That's it.

Bear in mind three points:

  1. iTunes cannot handle flac files, so if the music on the CDR is in flac format, it will not be added to your iTunes Library. You will need to convert the files first, or obtain them in a format that iTunes can handle
  2. when using Add File to Library, you can select multiple songs within one folder
  3. when using File/Add Folder to Library, if you select a folder that contains music that is already in your Library, it will be added again and you will end up with duplicate entries for those songs. So use "add folder" with caution
