How Can I Turn OFF FIND MY IPHONE

How am I supposed to remove the phone from Find My Iphone if I cant access the phone. The phone does not work. I might be wrong but I recall you having to actually be able to unlock your phone and use it to go to your settings and turn off your find my iphone... which I cannot do if the phone does not work this is so frustrating

Basically, go to your iCloud account the select 'Find iPhone'. Then find/select your device in the drop down list 'All Devices'.

Select 'Erase iPhone'. Keep selecting next, don't enter a phone number or message if prompted..

Then finally, select 'Remove from Account'
